Raymond W. Gilbert Jr.

Raymond W. Gilbert Jr., of Verplanck, NY died on February 20,2024. He was 87 years old. Raymond was born in Yonkers, NY to Raymond Sr. and Dorothy (Roth) Gilbert. Raymond was a Veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Hale. Raymond was very intuitive with his ability to design things in many technical positions of his working career. He worked as a dispatcher for Burnwell Gas before becoming the proprietor of Gils Grills in Montrose, NY for 21 years. Raymond served as Chief of the Montrose Fire Department in 1979-1980. He served two terms as Exalted Ruler at the Peekskill Elks Lodge #744. In his younger years, Raymond enjoyed playing tennis and softball. Raymond is survived by his wife Angelina, children, Toni (Kelly) Stewart, Gail (John) Gmeiner, John (Karen), Raymond (Melanie) and Joseph (Kelly), 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Morrissey, Janet Muskus and brother, William (Tom) Gilbert. He was predeceased by his sisters Carol Annacone and Gail Ennever. Reposing Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the O’Mara & Carpentieri Funeral home. A mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Monday at the St. Patrick’s Church in Verplanck, NY. Entombment will follow at the Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cortlandt Engine Company, 2143 Albany Post Road, Montrose, New York 10548 or the VA Hudson Valley HCS, Attn: Voluntary Services, 2094 Albany Post Road, Montrose, New York 10548.
