Robert B. “Whitey” Knudsen, of Montrose, NY, beloved father, poppa, partner and friend, passed away on April 1, 2024 at the age of 79. Robert was born on April 19, 1944 in the Bronx to Bernard and Anna Knudsen. He was a proud ironworker and member of Local 40 for 60 + years. Robert, or Whitey as he was known on the job, had his hands on most of the bridges and modern skyscrapers that define the New York skyline and make it the wonder it is today. In his retired years, Robert loved his garden, scheming all winter long on what he would plant and the best garden layout for the upcoming season. He loved to vacation in Aruba where he would spend his days on the beach, bobbing in the water. But Robert was happiest sitting on his deck, with those he loved, listening to the windchimes, watching the birds and overlooking the beautiful garden that surrounded him. Robert is survived by his life partner, Marietta, his two daughters, Liana and Deidre and his granddaughter Aleeza. He was predeceased in 2012 by his beloved son, Robert. Robert will always be remembered for his generous fun loving spirit, his loving smile, and his big heart. He will forever hold a place in our hearts, and will never ever be forgotten. Reposing on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 2:00-6:00 PM at the O’Mara & Carpentieri Funeral Home. A private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Make a Wish Foundation at secure2wish.org.
